Some of Our National Marketing Achievements Since February 2011

Facebook – look for our national duty free page by typing in the search term DUTY FREE CANADA. We encourage you as a member to view our facebook page and certainly "LIKE" us on Facebook. We currently have over 1400 Likes to our facebook page...and counting.

Twitter – this is a new initiative and we are beginning to tweet all about duty free specials, promotions, upcoming regional events, etc. If you are a member who feels that there is something we should be "tweeting" about – please let the FDFA know...The FDFA also recently held its first operator Twitter Webinar to teach our store owners/operators how to utilize this technology to drive their own store's social networking programs. This webinar and follow up presentation is available to all members via the FDFA Members Only Website under Professional Development.

First National Contest – What is your Travel Character? This past summer, we developed our first online customer contest which resulted in a huge spike in our web traffic – in one day of the contest we had over 2,000 visits to the website. The winner of this contest ($1,000 duty free shopping spree) went to Kristen Duever of London, Ontario (pictured left). Kristen won both the Facebook and Online contests.

What do customers view on our site? Our top web pages that are viewed by the public on the website are the customs allowances, save the tax, Peace Arch Duty Free and the locations home page.

Newsletter – the first online newsletter has been created, and based on our contest efforts and email sign up tab on our new website, the FDFA has generated 6,000 customer emails. We are hopeful to generate upwards of 20,000 email addresses in the next six to nine months.

Duty Free Blog – On our website, you will see a news blog. If you have an interesting story or promotion, again, let us know and we will be happy to blog about this duty free topic.

Google Ranking of Duty Free Canada - Based on our organic approach to increasing Duty Free Canada as the number one placement on Google, we are now in most parts of the country the number one to number three ranking when someone types in the key words duty free Canada

Store Websites - Many new individual store websites have been developed including that of Peace Arch Duty Free, Osoyoos Duty Free/Kingsgate Duty Free and North Portal Duty Free. Currently in development is Altan Duty Free. All new websites can be sourced on our new website – simply go to the respective store's individual page.

Upcoming activities – we are hoping to continue driving further web traffic to our site. We know that the first several years of this extensive program is about developing our brand and creating initial awareness. After this phase is complete, our initiatives will focus on driving specific sales and traffic to stores whereby our members can see the true value of investing in such a program.

At the upcoming FDFA Operator's meeting in November, the board will discuss with the operator's our proposed national marketing plans for 2012. Once this discussion has taken place, and final decisions have been made, the FDFA will ensure to communicate any upcoming national marketing initiatives to all of our members.
