Doug Waldie Scholarship Program – Evolving the Program

Doug WaldieIn 2006, the FDFA launched the first student scholarship program to recognize the achievements of our student employee demographic. We named the scholarship program after Doug Waldie, who is one of the pioneers of the Canadian Land Border Duty Free Industry and former Director at CBSA. These previous student award winners and their submissions can be viewed via the FDFA Members Only site

This year, we are not implementing the scholarship program, as the FDFA has strategically decided to review the merits and overall program in order to identify a way to expand this program on a national level. As such, the decision has been made to re launch this program in 2012 via our national marketing website in the form of a contest that allows a greater majority of Canadian students to apply. The details of the program such as whether only business and/or hospitality students can apply, how much the total bursary will be, etc. is currently being researched and reviewed. It is confirmed though that our duty free students will certainly be able to continue to apply for this bursary.

In 2012, the FDFA will communicate to our members the formal details of the 2012 Doug Waldie Student Scholarship program. The concept at this time is to launch the program online in order to effectively target and communicate to this specific demographic, while at the same time generate further awareness of our national marketing website/industry.
