FDFA Committee Updates
Government Relations Committee:
 The Government Relations Committee is working on several key duty free issues at this time, which includes WHO Tobacco issue, Bill C-32, Allowances and WHTI.
As per recent communications to our members, the WHO Tobacco meetings that recently took place in Geneva have now concluded. It is our understanding from the Canadian government delegation that Canada has no intention to sign on to the proposed protocol to ban tobacco from duty free stores. However, they do intend to share best practices regarding tobacco control with other countries. The FDFA will continue to monitor these activities.
Business Development and Supplier Committee:
Both the BD and Supplier Committee are working on the upcoming professional development workshop topics, and identifying facilitators for the November 19th event. More information to be available shortly.
Gold Standards Committee and Convention Committee:
The Gold Standards 2009 program is underway and is going smoothly. The final results will be submitted to the FDFA for final tally in October 2009, with the awards presentations slated for November 2009 at the FDFA Semi-Annual meeting. The Convention Committee has met this summer and initiated their discussions for the 2010 25th Anniversary convention in Niagara Falls. These recommendations are being brought forward to the FDFA Board of Directors in September 2009. |
